Ah the dreaded one, patience. For many of us, it is the the fruit we find the hardest to possess and the easiest to dismiss. Of course we know patience is good, but it’s for the “better Christians”. You know, the ones that patience comes naturally to.
For too many Christians this is the mentality towards patience. “Well I can be good and faithful and whatnot, but does God really expect me to be patient?” Yes! He does! He knows how hard it is though and he does not expect you to achieve complete patience on you own. He also wants you to depend on Him.
Psalm 27:14, “Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”
Do you ever find yourself trying to get ahead of the Lord’s plans? I know I do! When you wait for God, whether it be a response, a path, or even for the Lord himself to return, do you wait with patience, with anxiousness, or even full blown restlessness?
God’s timing will always be better than our own, he is the artist of the painting of our lives! God is also more patient with us than we will ever understand. How blessed are we that we have a patient and loving God!
To possess patience we must ask God to lead us. When we begin to get restless and even a bit demanding, we should instead take a step back and remember who God is. Although it may not be our own timing, it is truly perfect timing.
My challenge for you today is to keep God’s perfect timing in your heart and in your mind. When you start to get a little impatient remember the big picture, remember how God is patient with you!
“Lord, thank you for your patience; as always it is far more than I deserve. I ask you to guide me to be patient with the situations and people I encounter today. Help me to remember your patience and your love. Amen.”
