Devotion: Measuring Up to Perfect

In a world of social media, we are constantly pressured to only show the “perfect” sides of ourselves. We are told it is shameful to show our imperfections! No one should know we aren’t perfect. News flash: no one is perfect. Our lives are messy! No one has a “Pinterest-perfect” life.

God knows you are not perfect, he knows we can’t be! You don’t need to hide your imperfections from anyone; and we definitely shouldn’t judge others for their shortcomings either! God created each of us in His image, with a plan for all of us!

Romans 3 says a lot about falling short of perfection: Romans 3:10 says, “As it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one;” Romans 3:23: “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”

If we know that we are not perfect, and those around us are not perfect why is there so much pressure? So many comparisons? As a family of believers we need to spend a lot less time comparing ourselves, and a lot more time lifting each other up, acting like real sisters in Christ!

My challenge for you today is when you catch yourself thinking something negative about who you are, stop and say instead, “I am a beautiful daughter of God! My Father in heaven loves me; I know who I am in Him.”

Also remember to pray today! “Lord, thank you for your perfection! Please remind me today that I am cleansed of all of my imperfections through the blood of Christ. Thank you Father for sacrificing your perfect Son, so that I too may become perfect in your eyes. Amen.”
